Canvas Release 11/05/2019

We skipped that last release cycle because many of the changes implemented by Canvas were background changes. In this months update Canvas have been busy updating the mobile app, and there’s lots of new features for both staff and students.

Mobile Updates

Viewing Modules within a Course (Available in iOS Teacher 1.8, Android Teacher 1.8)

The Teacher app supports viewing Modules. From the Modules page, you can now collapse or expand modules. Items listed within modules can be opened to view item due dates and draft states.

File Types – Augmented Reality Support (Available in iOS Teacher 1.8, iOS Student 6.5)

The Teacher app supports viewing augmented reality (USDZ) files. When you click on a USDZ file link, you can select to open that file in augmented reality by tapping the Augment Reality button. This allows you to preview objects and place them in augmented reality using Appleā€™s AR Quick Look tool.

Quizzes Page Updates (Available in iOS Student 6.5)

The Quizzes page has been redesigned to provide more information and improved usability. In addition to the title and due date that were previously listed, each quiz displays the total points possible, total questions, and the time the quiz will be due.

Syllabus Redesign (Student App, iOS 6.5 and Android 6.5)

The Syllabus has been updated for improved usability. This change allows students to view the course syllabus immediately after tapping the Syllabus link in Course Navigation. Previously, students had to tap an additional link to view the syllabus. The Syllabus page includes tabs to toggle between viewing the syllabus and the assignments list. If a course does not have a syllabus, the Syllabus page will only display the assignments list.
