Canvas Release 02/06/2018

Most of the changes in this release are background updates. There are however a few improvements to the inline doc viewer tool which allows you to annotate on student work. There have also been some updates to Panopto and the Android Canvas App.

Canvas Updates

Doc Viewer – Image Support

DocViewer annotations can be added to BMP, JPEG, JPG, PNG, TIF, and TIFF images in SpeedGrader and the Submission Details page. Large images are scaled to a lower resolution so the entire image can be displayed without having to scroll.

Instructor Annotation Management

Instructors can delete any annotations or comments for any user. This change allows instructors to remove annotations or comments that may be inappropriate or incorrect within a document.

When a user with annotation management permissions deletes a user’s annotation or comment, the annotation or comment is deleted from view for all users except for the owner of the annotation or comment. The owner can retain the deleted items or remove them by clicking the Remove icon. Deleted comments still support replies.

Non-Author Annotation Comments

Users can comment on annotations if they are not the author of the annotation. This change allows any user to comment on annotations made by another user if a comment does not already exist.

Panopto

Panopto is also updated as part of this update cycle. For more information about the updates to Panopto, please see the complete release notes.

New Editor Features

Updates include new editor features such as splice multiple videos together and upload individual video tracks.

New analytics features

You can download a new CSV report showing sessions that have been created or edited in a given period. In addition, you can schedule reports to run in the future. And when generating reports, you can preview the fields included in the report and easily access recent reports.

Embed player quizzing

Panopto’s video quizzes now appear in the embedded player, when accessed from either a mobile device or a desktop browser. Prior to this release, quizzes could only be taken in the interactive player, on a desktop PC or Mac.

Threaded discussions

When you reply to a comment, Panopto will automatically create a “thread”, or a visual grouping of the comment and its replies.

Stream swap

In the interactive video player, you can now swap the position of primary and secondary video streams.

Drag-and-drop folders

Moving folders is easier than ever. Panopto now supports the ability to drag and drop folders from one location to another.
