Turnitin is LJMU's plagiarism detection and text matching tool.
It matches any assignment submission against a number of sources, including the internet, a number of journals and other academic institutions.
The Turnitin Framework allows you to link seamlessly with Turnitin. This method offers improved reliability since work is accessible in the core system (Canvas) even if Turnitin is unavailable. Tutors can therefore continue to mark submissions and students can access their feedback and marks during unscheduled periods of Turnitin downtime.
Academic Misconduct
There is an online Academic Misconduct Quiz that can be added to any module which helps students to understand plagiarism. If you would like to know more contact the Teaching and Learning Academy via LJMUHelpMe.
Originality Reports
Turnitin initially runs an originality report against external sources when a student submits before the due date. It does not matched against other students' submissions within the assignment. Once the due date is reached a secondary analysis is performed and this looks for matches within the assignment folder between other student submissions for evidence of collusion. The overall matches are then added to the report.
Training Sessions
The Teaching and Learning Academy provides a wide range of opportunities for training and development. Further details of learning technology related training, dates and booking details can be found at theĀ LJMU Staff Development Calendar.
