Blog Post: Digital Student Support Workers in Canvas

Digital accessibility is even more critical at this particular time. The Teaching and Learning Academy, IT Services and Student Advice and Wellbeing have collaborated to ensure all support workers, working alongside a student to support them academically, are enrolled in Canvas.

This means that students who have this requirement, can have their support worker attending their live Zoom sessions and recordings, reviewing Panopto pre-recorded materials, or helping them understand the requirements for an assignment.

The support worker is enrolled in Canvas as a member of LJMU staff. They have the same privileges as a student on the course and must abide by the same code of conduct. They are identified under the new role of ‘Note Taker Assistant’ in the Canvas course peoples area.

I’m a Support Worker, how do I learn how to use Canvas?

Here is a list of useful resources to help you

  • Take a look at our student guides
  • There is a Canvas orientation course in the ‘More Courses’ area on the Canvas home page.
  • You can use the Canvas 24/7 support in the ‘Help’ button on the home page of Canvas.
