Simulations in Pharmacy: with Jonathan Davies – LJMU Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences 28/04/21

Jon talked about the virtual simulation programme that they have been integrating into Mpharm this year.

Overview

Jon talked about the virtual simulation programme that they have been integrating into Mpharm this year have formed the basis of what we’ve called ‘Experiential Learning Days’ for the final year pharmacy students.

This is where students are put in the role of a pharmacist, and asked to work through a series of activities. Essentially, trying to find ways for pharmacy students to experience work-based learning, make decisions etc, without actually being in the workplace because of COVID. They have fitted in a few tricks from serious games/escape rooms (codes, passwords to gatekeep progress etc) and explored ways to try and make asynchronous activities feel synchronous (students being required to record voicemails for patients for instance).

You can watch a recording of this session here and read more about his approach in this case study.
