Programme Community Sites

What is a programme community site?

Programme community sites are to allow communication and connections between all the students in a programme and all the teaching team. This is different from the usual Canvas courses based around a module where it is difficult to connect students from different years to share and support each other. The programme community sites use the enrolment data from the student information service (SIS) to automatically enrol all of the students on a particular programme into the community site. This means that there is no need to worry that any students will not get added to the sites as it is all automated. It also means that you can set up a community site that has a number of different programmes connected with it such as fulltime and parttime students or students from very similar programmes.

Please note: a programme can only be added to one programme community site. Meaning those on a specific engineering programme can not be in two programme community sites at once.

Please note: The SIS data does not record if a student has left a programme to go to a new programme. We are currently working on a way to unenroll these students from then old programme. Please see the following guidance for those students.

How does a student that has left a programme, prevent unwanted emails from the old programme site.

If you have left a programme to start on a different programme you may find that the old programme site announcements are still sent to you via email. Follow these steps to stop these and remove that site from your Canvas dashboard.

How do I manage notifications for a single course as a student?

Please read this guide to help you remove the old community site from your Canvas dashboard.
