This project is focused on supporting and evaluating two new classroom technologies, working in collaboration with IT services.  The first is Mersive Solstice content sharing which allows staff and students to share their screen to the main teaching screen. Mersive Solstice Active Learning allows staff to put students in groups to work collaboratively on a single PC and then share their screens. These new capabilities should be a useful addition to a toolset to increase opportunities and creative space for active blended learning.

The Teaching and Learning Academy recognises the changing patterns of engagement with development and training across the sector. Many institutions support programme development and design particularly when implementing large scale change success as movements to inclusive, blended and online delivery (such as C7, ABCADDIE and Carpe Diem). We wish to explore these new methods with programme teams to understand the opportunities within LJMU. We believe that this may help integrate institutional strategic aspirations with curriculum developmentdesign, and practice. It may also help communicate and share new models and practices and create greater awareness of the immediate needs of staff and students.  Programme level design project definition document

Canvas Blueprinting Project

TEL team developments release model - develop stageThis image denotes that the project is in the Develop stage.

The TEL team are currently in consultation with Academic Registry services about the replacement of the existing pseudo-course framework with the Canvas Blueprinting tool. Unlike SIS modules, pseudo-courses are manually created in Canvas and used to group several module cohorts into one course, allowing for the easier management of content. Blueprinting is a fully supported, core Canvas tool which provides an alternative method for managing the deployment of content, from a single Canvas ‘Master’ course, leaving the students enrolled in their correct SIS modules.

Benefits:

  • Clarity: Keeping students enrolled within their initial Canvas module ensures alignment with curriculum management software and other institutional systems.
  • Consistency: Keeping students enrolled within their initial Canvas module ensures that they can access institutional tools that are only available in the SIS module. These are:
    • The Key Information area - This section of the Canvas course that originally replaced the module handbook. It provides easy access to clear and consistent information about the modules they are studying. It contains a module description, expected learning hours, assessment details, a link to the reading list and links to further important resources.
    • Reading List - Contains key reading material for the courses.
    • Timetable – Links to course timetables.
